When I was in the military they gave me a medal for killing two men and a discharge for loving one.

Ukraine’s Got Talent winner creates art in sand

This is stunning: it’s the winning performance from Ukraine’s Got Talent. Kseniya Simonova, 24, shows what happened in the Ukraine during World War II when Germany invaded (the The Great Patriotic War), and she uses sand to do it. Sand. It really has to be seen to be believed.

Although it’s been on YouTube since June, I learned about it Friday night from Roger Ebert’s tweet, in which he called her “The Susan Boyle of sand animation.” It’s hard to disagree.

This is so moving!

Wow that really was amazing.

This is holiday spirit. You don’t see this around all too often.

As of 12:45 PM. And apparently we still have 6-8 hours left of heavy snow to come.

Let’s do some math here. This picture was taken at about 2:00 AM, and the measurement I recorded was 5.5 inches on my back deck. The snow started at around 9:00 PM, so a total of 5 hours have elapsed. The heaviest of the snow hasn’t even come into the area yet; they predict that the heaviest snow will begin at around 6:00 AM and last until 8:00 PM Saturday evening. That’s 14 hours of the ‘heavy snow’ that we haven’t even encountered yet.
If 5.5 inches has already fallen from 5 hours of ‘normal’ snow, this storm is going to be tremendous.
